2007 Seed Grant Program, which seeks to award grants up to $2500 to
fund projects aimed at improving outcomes for women with breast
cancer. Projects for which a seed grant may be awarded must:

06-5
Request for Short Applications 06-5 provides a mechanism for junior
investigators whose area of interest is consistent with the mission
of HEI to apply for pilot study funds through an expedited
mechanism. Such pilot studies are intended to help junior
investigators generate data in support of an application for a full
study. HEI is interested in receiving applications on novel and
important aspects of health effects of air pollutants, particularly
those derived from motor vehicle emissions.

Doctoral Research Grant. This $5000 grant is awarded annually to a

neuroscience, and social work.

The Canon
National Parks Science Scholars Program: The 2007 Canon National
Parks Science Scholars Program
The Canon National Parks Science Scholars Program is pleased to
announce its 2007 competition. The program is a collaboration among
Canon, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and
the U.S. National Park Service. Thanks to a generous commitment by
Canon, the program will be awarding eight $80,000 (U.S. dollars)
scholarships to Ph.D. students throughout the Americas to conduct
research critical to conserving the national parks of the region.
Research projects in the biological, physical, social and cultural
sciences are eligible, as well as projects in technology innovation
in support of conservation science. Applications must be received

The Mental
Health Research Association: NARSAD Distinguished Investigator
Award
NARSAD is the largest nongovernmental, donor-supported organization
that distributes funds for brain disorder research. The NARSAD
Distinguished Investigator Award Program offers up to $100,000 for
a 1 year period and is intended for established scientists who
maintain peer reviewed competitively funded scientific programs.
The NARSAD Distinguished Investigator Award program supports basic
and/or clinical investigators. Research must be relevant to
schizophrenia, major affective disorders, or other serious mental
illnesses including research with bipolar disorders, borderline
disorders with depression and suicide, and research with children.
A small number of letters of intent will be selected for further
review with additional information requested. The second tier of
applications will also be brief, but will provide the investigator
an opportunity to provide more detail on methods, potential
significance, feasibility, and institutional support.

achieving a better understanding of the metabolic basis of Lowe

Woods Hole
Oceanographic Institution: Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Fellowship
Program
Graduate students and researchers from a variety of fields who
share a common interest in the nonlinear dynamics of rotating,
stratified fluids share an intense ten-week research experience,
and vigorous discussions of concepts that span different
disciplines. Fellows pursue a research project under the
supervision of the staff and present a lecture and a written report
for a proceedings volume. Fellows receive a stipend and an
allowance for travel expenses within the United States. Fellows are
expected to be in residence for the full 10 weeks of the
program.
